Train operations on the Coastal Line have been further restricted to a single track following a derailment at Panadura Railway Station this morning (13th).

A slow train traveling from Panadura to Maradana derailed near the Panadura station, disrupting services on the Coastal Line.

One of the compartments of the derailed train collided with a nearby railway signal board, resulting in a complete breakdown of the signaling system in the area.

A spokesperson for Sri Lanka Railways stated that restoring the railway line to regular operations will take considerable time.

However, the Department of Railways has announced that one of the two railway tracks on the Coastal Line has been reopened for train operations. Train delays are expected to continue on the Coastal Line.
