Several powerset trains departing from Colombo Fort railway station were canceled or delayed this morning due to an ongoing strike, according to the Locomotive Operating Engineers Union (LOEU).

The strike, initiated by a faction of the Railway Drivers' Union, concerns the promotion of 84 train drivers who joined the service in 2015 and 2017.

Despite the disruption, the LOEU clarified that the executive committee did not authorize the strike; instead, it was a unilateral decision by the union secretary.

Commuters are advised to seek alternative transportation as train services are expected to face continued cancellations and delays.
