The government has decided to provide Rs. 10,000 to each family affected by the floods to aid in cleaning up their houses, announced State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon.

An allocation of approximately Rs. 150 million has been made for this purpose, with the funds to be distributed by the district secretaries, according to the State Minister.

Tennakoon emphasized the need for officials to responsibly distribute the funds to the affected families and to instruct them to use the money solely for cleaning their houses.

He reported that 284,505 individuals from 77,313 families across 23 districts have been affected by the adverse weather conditions. Of these, 12,638 individuals from 3,147 displaced families have been accommodated in 204 relief centres.

Tennakoon also stated that funds have already been sent to district secretaries to provide necessary facilities, including food, to all displaced individuals.

The extreme weather has resulted in 31 casualties, with 3 individuals still missing.
