Three police officers, including the OIC of the Puliyankulam Police Station, were injured after a police jeep veered off the road and collided with a house in Puliyankulam yesterday.

Reports indicate that the jeep was being driven by the Puliyankulam OIC, Chief Inspector Nalaka Idunil Gunasekara, at the time of the accident.

According to police, the jeep struck an electric pole and a motorcycle parked near the house before crashing into it.

The injured officers were admitted to Nedunkerny Hospital. While two, including the OIC, were discharged later, one officer was transferred to Vavuniya General Hospital.

The jeep sustained heavy damage in the accident. Following a breathalyzer test, the OIC who was driving was presented to the Nedunkerny Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) to determine if he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police have stated that it has not been revealed whether the OIC was intoxicated, and statements regarding the accident have been taken.

Further investigations into the accident are being conducted by the Nedunkerny Police.
