The suspect known as Kukul Chaminda, also identified as Bibile Chaminda, wanted for the vicious assault on a 4-year-old child, has been taken into custody by the Police, accompanied by his wife and another woman.
The arrest follows intensive investigations triggered by a widely circulated viral video on social media, which captured the suspect's brutal attack on the young child.
The footage, recorded by a neighbor, portrays the distressing scene of the suspect assaulting the child while the latter was at home.
Police said the arrest of the 45-year-old suspect, conducted jointly by the STF and Welioya Police in the early hours of this morning in the Pulmoddai area.
In addition, two women were arrested on charges of aiding the suspect.
All individuals involved will face legal proceedings as they are presented before the court today.
