The Secretary of Education for Sabaragamuwa Province announced that all schools in the Ratnapura Educational Zone, as well as those in the Elapatha, Ayagama, and Kalawana educational divisions within the Nivithigala Educational Zone, will be closed tomorrow, June 4th, due to severe weather conditions.
This decision was made in response to the ongoing adverse weather affecting these regions. The Secretary emphasized that the safety of students and staff is the top priority.
Future closures will be determined based on weather conditions in the coming days, with decisions being communicated after consultation with Zonal Education Directors.
In related news, the Governor of the Western Province, Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Gunathilake, has instructed the principals of all schools in areas where floodwaters have receded to reopen tomorrow, June 4th.
