The Avissawella Magistrate’s Court has ordered the driver of a private bus, which was driven along the railway track in the Puwakpitiya area, to be remanded in custody until June 14. The bus driver, arrested in Embilipitiya yesterday (02), was produced before the court today (03).
Police have filed several charges against the driver, including attempted murder, driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence of intoxicating drugs, and causing damage to government property. Meanwhile, the bus in question has also been taken into police custody.
A video of the private passenger bus being driven along the railway tracks parallel to a congested main road sparked controversy on social media on Sunday (02).
