The Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) of Sri Lanka has received permission from Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe to detain and question five individuals arrested for direct involvement with four Sri Lankans arrested in India for collaborating with the ISIS terrorist organisation.
The Court also approved examining the bank account details of these suspects, as it was revealed that funds had been transferred to their accounts from India on several occasions. The suspects were detained under a Court order, including two residents from Mawanella, two from Maligawatta and one from Bangadeniya, Chilaw. The TID is also investigating the main suspect, Gerard Pushparaja Osman Gerard from Dematagoda, who is currently missing.
According to reports, the suspects facilitated and financially supported the four Sri Lankans arrested in Ahmedabad, India, on May 19, who were allegedly planning a terrorist attack at the Ahmedabad airport. The four detained in India are Mohamed Nushrath of Periyamulla, Negombo, Mohamed Nafran of M.J.M.Latiff Mawatha, Mohamed Rashdeen of Nawagampura, Orugodawatta and Mohamed Faris of Jumma Masjid Road, Maligawatta.
Indian media reported that these suspects had gathered in Maligawatta for discussions, with photographs of the meetings found on their mobile phones. The Indian security forces revealed that the four Sri Lankans were planning an attack on the Ahmedabad airport.
