The Meteorology Department has announced that the current showery and windy conditions across the island are set to persist due to an active Southwest monsoon.
Residents in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, and Southern provinces should expect frequent showers.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm is anticipated in parts of Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Nuwara-Eliya district. Meanwhile, Uva province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts may experience showers or thundershowers in the evening or night.
Further, strong winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph are forecasted for the western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central, Western, Southern, and North-western provinces, along with the Trincomalee and Monaragala districts.
Maritime conditions around the island will be particularly rough due to the active monsoon. The Meteorology Department advises naval and fishing communities to avoid venturing into these sea areas until further notice.
