A group of Indian nationals illegally operating an IT firm in Colombo 7 on visit visas were apprehended by the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

Officials from the department’s Investigation Division raided a house in Cinnamon Gardens, detaining seven men and one woman, all in their thirties.

It was reported that all the foreigners had arrived on visit visas, with two found to have overstayed their 14-day visa period.

The arrested woman is reportedly the wife of one of the other seven suspects. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the group had rented the house to operate their IT company. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the nature of their work in Sri Lanka.

The immigration authorities are preparing to deport the arrested group once their paperwork and return air tickets are arranged. Officials reiterated that under local immigration law, it is illegal to engage in any form of work on a visit visa.
