The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka for 2024 has exceeded 24,000, according to the Epidemiology Unit. As of May 23, a total of 24,227 cases have been documented, with the Colombo district reporting the highest number at 5,183 cases.
The Western Province has emerged as the hardest-hit region, accounting for 8,711 cases. In May alone, 1,954 dengue cases have been logged across the country.
Amid significant rainfall in various parts of Sri Lanka over the past few days, health officials are urging the public to maintain clean surroundings and eliminate mosquito breeding sites to curb the spread of dengue.
