President Ranil Wickremesinghe officially inaugurated the long-awaited Clinical Training and Research Block at the Jaffna University Faculty of Medicine. This significant addition marks the first major construction project at the faculty in 46 years.
Constructed at a cost of Rs. 942 million, this state-of-the-art facility is designed to foster innovation in patient care and support the clinical research and training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The new block stands as a testament to the ongoing development in medical education and healthcare services in the region.
The project was initially proposed in 2017 with an estimated budget of Rs. 700 million and an expected completion date of 2019. Despite facing delays, the project reached completion in December 2023, fully funded by the Government of Sri Lanka.
Today's inauguration ceremony, led by President Wickremesinghe, also featured the launch of the Jaffna Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) in partnership with SingHealth Duke NUS, further enhancing the collaborative efforts in medical research and education.
