In response to a viral social media video showing a driver fined for failing to transfer vehicle ownership and lacking a registration certificate, sparking public confusion, police clarified the situation.

In the footage, a female officer asked the driver to prove ownership as he drove in Sabaragamuwa with a vehicle registered in the Central Province. The driver questioned if interprovincial driving was prohibited, denying traffic violations.

The officer clarified that the offense was failing to transfer ownership. The driver asked if renting a vehicle was an option. She replied affirmatively, emphasizing the need for proper documentation.

When queried about mandatory registration certificates for interprovincial travel, Traffic Director SSP Manoj Ranagala stated it's unnecessary, emphasizing valid licenses, insurance, and revenue licenses suffice for nationwide travel.
