An inmate at Matara Prison has died due to an illness believed to be brain fever.

The 24-year-old inmate, incarcerated for approximately three months, died while undergoing treatment at Matara Hospital last night (20).

Authorities suspect that the inmate's death was caused by brain fever, prompting ongoing investigations. Additionally, another inmate currently under medical care is reportedly exhibiting similar symptoms.

Numerous cases of brain fever were documented at Matara Prison in December of last year, leading to multiple inmate fatalities.
