Police have arrested a person accused of facilitating the travel of more than 100 individuals to Russia on tourist visas.
The suspect was taken into custody by the Human Trafficking, Smuggling, and Maritime Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Allegedly, the suspect aided individuals in securing tourist visas for Russia, operating in close proximity to the Russian embassy.
After questioning, the suspect is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.
Investigations were launched in response to concerns about Sri Lankans being trafficked for involvement in conflicts in Russian and Ukrainian regions.
Previously, law enforcement agencies had arrested several suspects for their alleged involvement in trafficking Sri Lankans to Russia and Ukraine in recent weeks.
