A Colombo 7 businessman has been arrested for allegedly assaulting Iranian Ambassador Dr. Alireza Delkhosh at the Colombo City Center (CCC) car park last evening.
The suspect, Buwaneka Mahasen Basnayake (36), a resident of Ward Place, Colombo 07, reportedly attacked the Ambassador following a parking altercation at the CCC car park.
Police stated that after the altercation, the Ambassador exited his vehicle and tried to stop the businessman from escaping by placing his hand on the car's bonnet while calling for the driver to wait for the police.
Despite this, Basnayake allegedly drove the car, causing the Ambassador to be thrown onto the bonnet.
Police officers arrived promptly and arrested the suspect. He has been remanded until tomorrow (20) by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala.
