Despite a recent decline in infections, health officials are predicting a surge in Dengue cases due to ongoing rainfall.

Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, said that local authorities and health organizations are intensifying efforts to combat the spread of the disease.

"Public awareness campaigns, mosquito control measures, and prompt medical assistance for those affected remain key strategies in the battle against Dengue," Dr. Samaraweera emphasized.

Significant rainfall across several parts of Sri Lanka in recent days has prompted health officials to urge the public to maintain clean surroundings and eliminate mosquito breeding sites.

According to the latest data from the Epidemiology Unit, 23,731 Dengue cases have been reported as of May 16, 2024. The Colombo District has the highest number of infections, with 5,057 cases. The Western Province leads among provinces, with 8,515 reported cases.
