A Sri Lankan fisherman has been killed, and another is reported missing following a collision between a multi-day fishing vessel and a ship off Valaichchenai, Trincomalee.
On May 12, five fishermen departed from the Valaichchenai fisheries harbor for a multi-day fishing expedition. The accident occurred approximately 47 kilometers off the coast.
Initial investigations by the police indicate that heavy rainfall in the area may have been the cause of the collision.

Meanwhile, another fisherman who was aboard the vessel during the collision sustained injuries and has been hospitalized at Trincomalee Hospital for treatment.
