The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued a reminder to the Government Analyst to submit an analytical report on the voice sample of former Sri Lankan national cricketer Sachithra Senanayake, related to ongoing investigations into match-fixing allegations.
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Sports Ministry is investigating Senanayake for alleged match-fixing during the Lanka Premier League in 2020. The Court had previously ordered the Government Analyst to analyze Senanayake's voice sample as part of the investigation.
The Attorney General’s Department has instructed the SIU to frame criminal charges against Senanayake, citing sufficient evidence under the Prevention of Offences Related to Sports Act No. 24 of 2019. If found guilty, Senanayake could face a fine of Rs. 500,000 and/or a 10-year jail term.
The case continues under the provisions of the 2019 Act aimed at preventing offences related to sports.
