Maithripala Sirisena has resigned as Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), clearing the path for new leadership.
Today, the Executive Committee of the SLFP gathered at a hotel in Kotte and unanimously decided to appoint Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe as the new Chairman.
The executive committee's decision comes amidst a backdrop of various challenges the party is currently confronting.
