This afternoon, a significant diplomatic gathering took place at the headquarters of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), where key representatives from Japan, Switzerland, and South Africa convened with National People's Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The meeting saw the participation of Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mizukoshi Hideaki, Ambassador to Switzerland, Siri Walt, and South African High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Sandile Schalk, alongside their respective diplomatic aides.
Among the attendees were Murata Shinichi, First Secretary (Political Affairs) of the Japanese Embassy, Zanethemba Tshangela, Second Secretary (Political Affairs) of the South African High Commission, and Justine Boillat, First Secretary (Political Affairs) of the Switzerland Embassy.
Representatives from the NPP, including Dr. Rizwi Sally, Saroja Paulraj, Ramalingam Chandrasekar, and Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara, actively participated in the discussions.
Sources within the NPP revealed that the meeting primarily delved into matters concerning inter-racial peace and reconciliation. Emphasizing their stance against the politicization of racism, the NPP reiterated its commitment to resolving national issues through principles of equality and democracy.
Separately, Anura Kumara Dissanayake engaged in dialogue with UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Marc-André Franche, also hosted at the JVP headquarters. Alongside Franche, Peace and Development Advisor Patrick McCarthy, and Peace Development Analyst Nethmini Medawala represented the United Nations, while NPP MP Vijitha Herath was present from the party.
During this session, discussions revolved around the current human rights situation in Sri Lanka, with considerable attention devoted to the ongoing peace and reconciliation process within the country.
