Sri Lanka welcomed the arrival of Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yoko Kamikawa, for a crucial two-day official visit aimed at addressing the nation's debt and economic restructuring process.
During her stay, Minister Kamikawa is scheduled to hold discussions with top-level officials of the Sri Lankan government, including President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
Prior to her visit, Minister Kamikawa emphasized Japan's commitment to collaborating with Sri Lanka in the debt restructuring process during a media briefing in Japan.
The agenda for discussions between the Japanese delegation and the Sri Lankan government encompasses a wide array of topics, including the resumption of economic ties, development engagements, and progress on Japan-funded investment projects in Sri Lanka.
One of the focal points of the talks will be the reinforcement of bilateral cooperation between Japan and Sri Lanka, grounded in years of development cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
Minister Kamikawa stressed the importance of strengthening this partnership during her visit. Specifically, she highlighted Japan's support for Sri Lanka's debt restructuring efforts and reiterated collaboration on various fronts, including Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy, Women, Peace and Security, as well as disarmament and non-proliferation.
Following deliberations with Sri Lankan officials, Minister Kamikawa is set to address a joint media briefing alongside her Sri Lankan counterpart.
