The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has greenlit the commencement of the second phase of the Anuradhapura North Water Supply Project, announced State Minister of Finance, Shehan Semasinghe.

This pivotal development comes as a response to the pressing need for enhanced water infrastructure in the region, catering to the requirements of approximately 50,000 families across several divisional secretariats.

Semasinghe conveyed the expansion plans via a post on 'X' (formerly Twitter), emphasizing JICA's commitment to extending financial support for the endeavor. The project's scope encompasses communities in Padaviya, Kebithigollewa, Horowpothana, and Kahatagasdigiliya divisional secretariats, spanning 119 Grama Niladari Divisions.

In a significant move, JICA has agreed to extend the timeline for providing financial assistance, underscoring their dedication to facilitating the project's progression. Semasinghe also disclosed that directives have been issued to the Water Supply and Drainage Board to secure the requisite Cabinet approval for resuming the project's implementation.

This decision was reached following a constructive discussion involving Mr. Yamada Tetsuya, the Head of JICA, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe, and pertinent officials at the Ministry of Finance.
