The Census and Statistics Department has announced a notable decrease in the monthly expenses of individuals across Sri Lanka in February compared to January.
Revealing insights from the Official Poverty Line Chart for February 2024, the department disclosed that the minimum amount required to meet basic needs dropped to Rs. 16,975 per month nationwide.
Notably, residents of the Colombo district require Rs. 18,308 to cover essential expenses.
This positive shift, according to the department, is attributed to a reduction in inflation compared to the previous month, as indicated by the National Consumer Price Index released for February.
The data also highlights regional disparities, with the Moneragala district recording the lowest monthly expenditure at Rs. 16,231.
