Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya expressed optimism regarding the import of vehicles in the coming year, signaling a potential uptick in the country's economy.
Speaking to the media at an event in Dematagoda, he highlighted key financial developments and government initiatives aimed at supporting citizens during challenging times.
Siyambalapitiya revealed that an additional Rs. 13 billion was allocated for state employee salaries, resulting in a total disbursement of Rs. 107 billion for April. This move underscores the government's commitment to supporting its workforce amidst economic fluctuations.
Moreover, the minister announced the commencement of a program to provide ten kilograms of essential goods to 2.7 million families for the months of April and May, starting on April 21. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on households and ensure access to basic necessities during times of need.
Highlighting the significance of this subsidy, State Minister Siyambalapitiya noted that more than half of Sri Lanka's total number of families are eligible to benefit from this assistance, reflecting the government's efforts to address socio-economic disparities and support vulnerable populations.
