An army lieutenant has been arrested for possession of heroin in Pillawa, Boralesgamuwa. The suspect is reportedly attached to the 4th Gemunu Army Brigade stationed at the Gemunu Army Regimental Headquarters in Kuruwita.
According to intelligence received by the Boralasgamuwa Police, the suspect attempted to evade police inspection. However, during a subsequent search, police discovered 60mg of narcotics concealed in his pants pocket.
Police investigations have uncovered that the suspect had taken leave to purchase drugs, citing a scarcity of drugs across the island.
Authorities noted that the arrested individual had previously been detained twice on drug-related charges, being released after receiving stern warnings.
The suspect, aged 32 and hailing from Medavachchiya, is to appear before the Nugegoda Magistrate Court.
