Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) is set to welcome back Thai Airways, the flag carrier airline of Thailand, as it recommences its operations with daily flights starting from April 1.
This development comes as a significant boon to Sri Lanka's tourism industry, which has already demonstrated remarkable growth in the first two months of 2024.
With passenger numbers reaching 207,182 in January and surging to 218,350 in February, the resurgence of Thai Airways at BIA is expected to further stimulate tourism activity in the country.
Passengers flying with Thai Airways will have the opportunity to indulge in premium travel experiences while exploring over 60 cities across 28 countries from Bangkok, the airline's hub. Thai Airways operates flights to key destinations in Europe, Australia, Asia, and of course, Thailand itself.
The Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Pvt.) Limited (AASL) expressed its delight in welcoming Thai Airways back to its main gateway. By February 2024, Sri Lanka airports had already served 36 esteemed airlines conducting scheduled international operations, showcasing the nation's pivotal role in the global aviation industry.
