Notorious underworld figure Nadun Chithaka Wickremeratne, alias ‘Harak Kata’, has been further remanded until April 26th following his failed escape attempt from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte issued the relevant order.

‘Harak Kata’ will be detained at the old prison complex in Tangalle.

‘Harak Kata’ produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, and subsequently before the Colombo High Court, following a request from the CID.

On September 10th, 2023, ‘Harak Kata’, while being interrogated by eight CID officers, allegedly poisoned their teas with the help of a Police Constable.

During the interrogation, ‘Harak Kata’ reportedly requested to use the washroom and was accompanied by his accomplice - the police constable - and another sub-inspector from the Police Special Task Force (STF), assigned for his protection. Despite his handcuffs being removed, the underworld kingpin feigned being restrained and attempted to seize the STF officer’s firearm, leading to a scuffle.

Upon hearing the commotion, a group of CID officers rushed to the scene and detained ‘Harak Kata’ in their custody.
