Opposition parties have announced their intention to table a no-confidence motion against Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, according to statements made by SJB MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha at a media briefing.
Jayamaha confirmed that the decision to bring forth the no-confidence motion stemmed from alleged violations of parliamentary procedures by Speaker Abeywardena. Specifically, the Speaker has been accused of neglecting instructions issued by the Judiciary regarding the Online Safety Bill.
"The no-confidence motion will be formally submitted within the coming days," stated Bandara, underscoring the determination of the opposition to pursue the matter through parliamentary channels.
