In a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat on Monday, February 19th, the Government of India inaugurated a housing project aimed at constructing 10,000 houses for plantation sector workers in Sri Lanka.
Under the fourth phase of India's housing initiative in Sri Lanka's plantation sector, 1,300 houses will be built across 45 estates spanning ten districts. The project signifies a collaborative effort between the two nations to address housing needs among plantation workers.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe participated in the event virtually, alongside Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, as reported by the President's Media Division (PMD).
The High Commission of India, on November 28th, 2023, signed two significant agreements for the construction of 10,000 houses in Sri Lanka's plantation areas under the fourth phase of the Indian Housing Project. This initiative underscores the longstanding partnership between India and Sri Lanka in addressing socio-economic challenges and promoting sustainable development in the region.
