Elizabeth M. Allen, the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, is set to embark on a diplomatic journey to Sri Lanka, India, and Jordan this month, underscoring the United States' commitment to fostering partnerships and alliances.
In a statement released by the State Department, Allen's visit, scheduled from February 12 to 22, aims to promote freedom of expression, economic empowerment, and global collaboration, which are at the core of U.S. foreign policy and public diplomacy initiatives.
While the exact date of her arrival in Sri Lanka is not specified, Allen's agenda includes fostering dialogue on freedom of expression and democratic values with various stakeholders, including journalists, civil society members, government officials, and the Embassy's Youth Forum. Her engagements with the Sri Lanka Press Institute, U.S. public diplomacy program alumni, and local content creators will highlight the importance of preserving diverse voices for a stable and inclusive Sri Lanka.
Additionally, Allen plans to meet representatives from Sri Lanka's multifaith community to underscore the significance of societal inclusivity. Following her visit to Sri Lanka, she will proceed to India as part of her diplomatic tour.
