The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Sri Lanka, Carmen Moreno, convened a meeting with Anura Kumara Dissanayake, leader of the National People's Power (NPP) party, at the JVP Headquarters earlier today.
Sources within the NPP disclosed that discussions primarily centered around pressing issues concerning Sri Lanka's economic crisis and the prevailing political landscape. The meeting provided a platform for both parties to exchange views on key matters affecting the nation's stability and prosperity.
Among the topics broached during the dialogue were the imperative of upholding human rights, safeguarding democratic principles, concerns surrounding the postponement of elections, and the recent enactment of the Online Safety Act. These issues underscore the shared commitment to promoting fundamental freedoms and democratic values in Sri Lanka's governance framework.
Furthermore, the meeting served as an opportunity to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral relations between the European Union and the NPP, reflecting a mutual interest in fostering constructive engagement and cooperation.
