President Ranil Wickremesinghe, presently in Australia for an official visit, convened with Western Australia’s Premier Roger Cook earlier today (Feb. 09) amidst the ongoing 7th Indian Ocean Conference.
Arriving at Perth International Airport on Thursday afternoon (Feb. 08), President Wickremesinghe's visit was extended as a guest of the India Foundation and the Australian Government to partake in the 7th Indian Ocean Conference, occurring from February 9-10 in Perth.
Scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the conference later today, President Wickremesinghe will delve into the theme "Towards a Stable and Sustainable Indian Ocean."
In their discussions, Premier Cook expressed Western Australia's keen interest in renewable energy and agricultural advancements, in addition to advocating for direct aviation links between Sri Lanka and Perth. He highlighted Perth's strategic position along the Indian Ocean as a gateway for fostering stronger bonds between South Asian countries and the wider Australian region.
President Wickremesinghe reiterated Sri Lanka's commitment to enhancing its renewable energy sector, emphasizing the nation's considerable potential in this sphere. Furthermore, he outlined Sri Lanka's initiatives in modernizing its agricultural landscape and extended an invitation to Premier Cook to explore investment prospects in this domain.
The President cordially invited Premier Cook to visit Sri Lanka to further explore investment opportunities and deepen bilateral ties between the two regions.
