The Prisons Department has disclosed that former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, currently in remand custody, opted not to attend today's parliamentary session (Feb. 07), despite being granted permission.

The decision underscores heightened scrutiny surrounding Rambukwella's legal situation.

Meanwhile, President Ranil Wickremesinghe ceremoniously commenced the Fifth Session of the Ninth Parliament this morning, following the prorogation of Parliament on January 26, as officially declared in the government gazette.
