Leader of Sri Lanka's Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Anura Kumara Dissanayake, held discussions with India's Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, on Monday morning, February 5th.
The meeting centered on the existing bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and India, exploring avenues for further strengthening the relationship to yield mutual benefits.
In a statement shared on 'X' (formerly Twitter), Dr. Jaishankar indicated that discussions also encompassed Sri Lanka's economic challenges and potential pathways forward.
Dr. Jaishankar reaffirmed India's commitment to its "Neighbourhood First" and SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) policies, underscoring India's steadfast support and partnership with Sri Lanka.
A delegation from the JVP, comprising Anura Kumara Dissanayake, senior legislator Vijitha Herath, Secretary Nihal Abeysinghe, and executive committee member Prof. Anil Jayantha, departed for Delhi, India, early on the same day. Their visit comes in response to an official invitation extended by the Indian government, as per a statement issued by the JVP.
