Kuliyapitiya police arrested a couple from Deegalla who left their three children, aged eight, five, and three, alone within their residence to fulfill a vow on a pilgrimage to Sri Pada.
Responding to information received through Police Emergency Service 119, authorities broke open the doors and found the children, who had fallen ill with fever due to the fear of being left unattended. The police admitted the children to a hospital.
Investigations revealed that the parents had left the children with a supply of biscuits and bread. Upon the parents' return, they were arrested.
