Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunuwela has informed that the consideration of handing over the mobile phone SIM card of the late businessman Dinesh Shafter to his wife will depend on the receipt of the government's expert report.

The magistrate clarified this stance while addressing the request from Mr. Shafter's wife to obtain a new SIM card displaying the phone number used by her husband before his death.

The previous Magistrate, responding to a request from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), had declined request, citing an ongoing murder investigation. The CID expressed concerns that providing the wife with a new SIM card displaying the deceased's phone number might hinder the investigation.

Despite the rejection of the SIM card request, the lawyer representing Mr. Dinesh Shafter emphasized in court that the phone number is crucial for business activities.

The Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that the deceased's mobile phone has been forwarded to the government analysts.
