An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from the Narcotics Unit has complained to the Bribery and Corruption Commission regarding an alleged bribe offer from a female lawyer when he was on a drug raid at a house of a close associate of underworld criminal Makilangamuwe Sanjeewa who is being held at the Weeragula Police Station.
A leaked audio conversation between a Police officer and a female lawyer has surfaced.
In the audio conversation the woman requests the ASP not to carry a thorough search of the particular house and throw a few items here and there to show that he had searched it. She also said that she is in Ganemulla at that time and if the ASP can meet her later she can give him the gift.
The lawyer who tried to give a gift to the ASP is a lawyer who appears in cases at the Gampaha Court. According to information from the Public Security Ministry, this lawyer has represented a relative of Makilangamuwe Sanjeewa.
