Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage issued an order for the release of a former Commando sniper who was arrested on November 10 by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The arrest was made on allegations of the individual's involvement in a plot to rescue underworld figures known as 'Harak Kata' and 'Kudu Salindu' from CID custody.

The Magistrate's decision to release the suspect was based on a lack of evidence pertaining to the accusations. However, it was specified that the release is contingent upon the filing of charges again if deemed necessary.

The OIC of the Digital Forensic Division within the Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

The Magistrate directed the Criminal Investigation Department to continue the investigation and present the findings to the court on the next scheduled court day.

Meanwhile, three other individuals involved in the case were ordered to be re-remanded until January 31.
