The Acting Inspector General of Police, Deshabandu Thennakoon, has issued a directive to all police stations instructing officers not to stop vehicles for inspections while on duty in civilian clothes. These instructions were conveyed to all police stations yesterday.
This directive follows a tragic incident in Narammala on Thursday, where a Sub Inspector of Police, dressed in civilian attire, allegedly opened fire at a lorry driver who refused to stop the vehicle.
