Military Intelligence personnel associated with the 12 Infantry Division, working alongside Gonanara Police Station officials, conducted a joint operation leading to the seizure of over 1500 kilograms of cannabis in the Yala Sugandipuram area, the Army said.
Following the operation, the confiscated cannabis was promptly destroyed at the site.
In addition to the substantial drug haul, Gonanara Police apprehended suspects involved in the illicit activity.
During the arrest, a locally produced weapon was also seized.
Further investigations are currently underway.
