Fifteen employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) face interdiction following their involvement in disrupting services during a three-day protest against the proposed state-owned electricity supplier restructuring.
The CEB trade union members, protesting the government's restructuring Bill and new Electricity Bill from January 3-5, were accused by the CEB of obstructing customers at cash counters.
The CEB management, anticipating the protest, had canceled leave but allowed exceptions with executive officer approval.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe's directive declared electricity-related services essential, leading Minister Kanchana Wijesekera to instruct CEB to suspend and take disciplinary action against disruptive employees.
