The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has urged the government to postpone the debate on the proposed Online Safety Bill, emphasizing the need for further discussions with stakeholders.
SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne expressed concerns about the legislation, particularly regarding the criminal liability for posting false information on social media platforms.
Wickramaratne highlighted potential risks to journalists, civilians, and intermediaries, calling for a reevaluation before passing the bill.
The debate is scheduled for January 23 and 24.
