Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Thennakoon has taken a decisive step in the fight against crime, providing a comprehensive list of 42,248 suspects involved in criminal activities across the entire island. The Public Security Ministry said that this list encompasses 35,505 individuals with open warrants, 4,258 wanted suspects identified through fingerprints, and 2,485 individuals wanted for crimes committed in the country over the last two years.
The Acting IGP has directed Officers-in-charge (OICs) of crimes in all police stations to take charge of the situation, emphasizing the urgency of the matter. In response to this, the IGP has instructed division officers, district officers in charge, Head Quarters Inspectors (HQIs), and crime OICs of all police stations to actively participate in the forthcoming 'Yukthiya' operation starting tomorrow (14).
Additionally, the IGP has issued orders for all Crimes OICs to deploy police officers round-the-clock with the goal of apprehending the wanted suspects within the next month. This strategic move is expected to significantly impact the arrest of suspects involved in various crimes, complementing the ongoing 'Yukthiya' operation aimed at apprehending individuals linked to drugs and the underworld.
