The Criminal Investigation Department has arrested a 55-year-old suspect from Kahawatta, accused of defrauding over Rs. 19 million.
The arrest comes following numerous complaints lodged with the department regarding promises of housing in the Peliyagoda shopping mall and Slave Island low-income housing complex.
The suspect allegedly preyed on individuals by falsely guaranteeing them homes in these locations. The total amount defrauded from unsuspecting victims is reported to be Rs. 19,663,800.
