A person who was injured in a shooting in Nawagamuwa area has succumbed to injuries after being hospitalized.
According to police, the victim was abducted and shot in the head last night (10) by two individuals who claimed to be officers of the Police Special Task Force.
The abducted person was forced to sleep near a bridge in Tunadahena, Delgahawatta, and was fatally shot in the head with a nine mm firearm. After initial treatment at the Oruala Regional Hospital, the victim was transferred to Colombo National Hospital, where he passed away.
Identified as Buddhika Prasad, a father of one and resident of Kaduwela, the deceased was reportedly facing charges in the High Court related to murder and firearm possession dating back to 2011.
Crime scene investigators from the Nugegoda Police Division were dispatched to the incident site last night to initiate an investigation. Acting on instructions from Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, four police teams have commenced investigations into the shooting.
