In a controversial turn of events, former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa was spotted at a lavish party hosted at sea in Colombo Port, raising eyebrows and drawing criticism from various quarters.
The event, allegedly organized by a group of SLPP Members of Parliament, has stirred public debate over the appropriateness of such gatherings, especially amidst concerns regarding the economic and political landscape.
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) swiftly responded to the circulating reports, vehemently denying any claims of a lavish party.
According to the SLPA, the Ports Authority organises such inspection tours for various Heads of States, VIPs, professionals and journalists in the inner and outer harbour in a move to provide correct information on the development activities at the ports.
The statement also said that the Ports Authority organised an inspection tour for a group of Ministers and MPs on the request of Ministers Nimal Siripala De Silva and Priyankara Jayaratne to witnessed the development of the Eastern Jetty, the JCT terminal and the West terminal.
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority said it had not borne any expenses for food or anything else as reported.
