The elder brother of Ellawala Liyanage, Dharmasiri Perera, a major drug trafficker operating abroad, was apprehended at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in connection with the alleged murder of a woman near the Kahathuduwa interchange of the Southern Expressway.
Last night, 47-year-old Ellawala Liyanage Dunston Prasad Perera, the paramour of the victim, was arrested as he attempted to flee the country at BIA.
The victim, a 41-year-old employee of the Civil Aviation Authority, was brutally attacked and killed near the Kahathuduwa interchange on the evening of the 9th. Prompt police action led to the reporting of the incident to the court, issuance of a travel ban against the suspect, and notification to airport officials.
The victim, a resident of Madapatha in Piliyandala, was attacked while returning home from work, and police suspect the motive behind the murder is related to an illicit affair.
