The Finance Ministry has instructed officials to set up a dedicated counter at all divisional secretariats to issue Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) to individuals above 18 years of age.

Additionally, State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya directed officials to establish similar counters at locations such as State Banks, Persons Registration Department, Department of Motor Traffic, etc.

These instructions were issued during a discussion with officials from the Inland Revenue Department, State Administration, and the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) to enhance activities related to issuing TIN.

The state minister emphasized the need for all divisional secretariats to provide necessary facilities for the public.

He expects an efficient process for issuing TIN, similar to the previous issuance of QR codes related to fuel.

The discussion also covered streamlining the current online registration application form and expediting the time it takes to issue the number to less than five days.
