A targeted response to the rising threat of dengue fever unfolded today (07) as a series of specialized national programs were set in motion under the directive of the President and guidance from Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana.
Themed "Keep your premises mosquito-free," this strategic initiative aims to bolster efforts in dengue mosquito control throughout the entire island, with a specific emphasis on regions at elevated risk.
The inaugural program took flight in the Western Colombo District, orchestrated by Health Secretary Specialist Dr. Palitha Mahipala and inaugurated by Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Tennakoon in the locales of Slave Island, Wellawatta, and Wijerama.
Deeming the period from today (07) to (13) as National Dengue Suppression Week, the Ministry of Health spearheads an expansive campaign against the disease nationwide. This collaborative endeavor involves the active participation of key stakeholders, including the Sri Lanka Police, all three armed forces, Ministry of Health officials, public health inspectors, and health medical officers.
On this initiation day, authorities stress the significance of unified action to ensure the efficacy of the program and mitigate the impact of dengue fever across the country.
